World market for semiconductor materials declined in 2019

According to SEMI estimates, the reduction was 1.1%.

The volume of the world market for semiconductor materials decreased by 1.1% in 2019. This was reported by the industry association SEMI, representing companies involved in the supply chain related to the design and manufacture of microelectronic products.

While materials sales for wafer fabrication decreased by 0.4 percent, from $33.0 billion to $32.8 billion, materials and process chemicals sales decreased by more than 2 percent. Sales of wafer fabrics decreased by 2.3%, from $19.7 billion to $19.2 billion. A slight growth was observed in only two categories, one of which was the substrate for packing crystals into bodies.

Taiwan remains the largest consumer of materials used in semiconductor manufacturing for the tenth consecutive year. Of the total $52.14 billion, it accounted for $11.3 billion, but this is 2.4% less than in 2018. South Korea is second with $8.83 billion, while China is third with $8.59 billion. By the way, the Chinese market is the only one where growth was recorded. It was 1.9%.
