Xiaomi has taught NFC-free contactless payment smartphones

Everything is implemented in Mi Pay via QR codes

It was not until the second half of last year that Xiaomi finally began equipping its low-cost and ultra-popular Redmi smartphones with NFC modules. However, many still have smartphones of previous generations in their hands.

And now they also have the opportunity to use the charms of contactless payment. It is reported that Mi Pay payment service now supports also smartphones without NFC. So far it concerns only Redmi Note 5, Note 7 and Redmi 6 models, but the list will be expanded later.

The system works quite simply. After adding a payment card and going through all identification procedures, a user just needs to press the power button twice to pay, thus calling Mi Pay application, and touch the fingerprint scanner, after which the smartphone will generate a QR code to complete payment. However, for now it will obviously only work in China.
