US space forces get their first weapon

In the newly created US Space Forces, the first offensive weapons system appeared. We are talking about the communications jamming system (CCS) Block 10.2, which entered service with the 4th Squadron of Space Command at Peterson Air Force Base, Colorado.

CCS will be deployed aboard a military transport aircraft. Its main purpose is to suppress enemy satellite control signals, which should block satellite communication channels and warning signals of impending missile attacks by strategic forces of the United States and its allies.

According to Space News, the first version of CCS was introduced in 2004 and gradually upgraded to Block 10.2 with a wider range of radio frequencies than before.

Most modern armies use the services of satellites for various purposes (communications, navigation, reconnaissance). It was previously believed that the most optimal way to deal with them is destruction. However, as a rule, military satellites are in geostationary orbit at an altitude of approximately 35,600 km, which greatly reduces their reach. In this situation, it turned out that it was much easier to jam the control and communication signals than to shoot down the satellites themselves. Technical parameters of CCS are in strict confidence.

The USA is not the only country with such systems. So, in Russia, the Tirada-2S mobile satellite communications suppression system has been deployed. China is also developing its own satellite jamming system.
