The number of gamers in Europe in March tripled

Playkey's cloud gaming service announced a three-fold increase in the number of new customers in Germany, a double in Italy, and 1.5 in Russia. At the same time, the company's revenue in March increased by 300%.

At the same time, the amount of time that gamers spend on the platform has increased. The game peak of activity now also captures daytime: it starts at 15:00 and lasts until 01:00. Earlier this time was at 20:00 and ended by midnight. Demand for 30-hour game packages in March grew by 50%. All these trends in the company are associated with the transfer of a large number of employees to the remote location due to the spread of the coronavirus epidemic.

“As a rule, in the middle and end of spring, the gaming industry is in a seasonal decline. The increased demand currently observed in the gaming sector is dictated by circumstances, ”said Roman Epishin, Playkey Marketing Director. According to him, in a bad development scenario, the number of users and playing time will grow for another two to three months, but then with a worsening situation in the global economy, these figures will decline. If the scenario is more favorable, the situation in the world economy will stabilize, and the gaming industry will survive a temporary decline in revenue and gaming activity.

Playkey was launched in December 2014. It allows owners of weak computers to play demanding technical top-end games with high-quality graphics.

Earlier, PC Master race moderators called on owners of powerful gaming video cards to join the Stanford scientific cloud computing project Folding @ Home, which organized a model calculation project to combat COVID-19. The same initiative was supported by Nvidia, which invited users of its graphics cards to provide scientists with computing power.

In addition, the development company Ndemic Creations, the creator of the game Plague Inc., donated $ 250,000 to organizations looking for a way to defeat the coronavirus. Developers will add the opportunity to make a donation to the game itself.
