Smartphone production will drop by 30% in the first half of 2020

This is how ABI Research analysts evaluated the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Specialists of the analytical company ABI Research have prepared a forecast related to the smartphone market. Experts predict that the COVID-19 pandemic will lead to a decline in smartphone production in the first half of 2020 by 30%.

Since China, where the first outbreak of COVID-19, is the world production center for smartphones and one of the largest consumers of these products. Not surprisingly, the Chinese smartphone market has been hit hard by disruptions to business and traffic flows.

Analysts point out that 5G smartphones, which were associated with hopes for market growth, have just begun to gain momentum and break into the market in significant quantities. But the virus outbreak has interrupted growth and does not allow hope for its resumption in the near future. This means that the introduction of 5G in more affordable price categories in 2020 was in question.

It is expected that the situation will gradually start to change by the end of the second quarter, but after that it will take some time to restore consumer confidence and device sales.
