According to the source, Samsung Electronics is establishing a partnership with Taiwan-based Epistar, an LED manufacturing company. South Korean media regard this as a sign that Samsung will begin supplying micro-LED TVs in the second half of the year.
Epistar is a shareholder of Taiwan-based PlayNitride, which is currently the exclusive supplier of micro-LED wafers for Samsung. Industry representatives are confident that Epistar will work with PalyNitride to deliver Samsung micro-LED plates through it.
Starting trial production of micro-LEDs in the third quarter of 2019, PlayNitride produced more than 1000 plates with a diameter of 150 mm per month in the fourth quarter, and this year it will increase the monthly output to 10,000 plates.
