Peugeot 208 hatchback recognized as "Car of the Year in Europe"

Peugeot won the COTY (Car of the Year) contest for the sixth time, thanks to a second-generation 208 hatchback with 281 points. The Tesla Model 3 sedan earned 242 points, and the Porsche Taycan 222. “From now on, our customers will be able to choose between the electric and gasoline cars of the year!” - Rejoices Peugeot CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato.

Since the launch in Europe (sales started in October 2019), almost 110,000 buyers have found the new “two-eighth”. Prices start at 15,490 euros. The electric version of the e-208 (from 30,450 euros) accounted for 15% of demand. The winner was determined by a jury comprising 60 car journalists from 23 European countries. Each of them could get to know all the cars on the landfill and ordinary roads.

The "second series", as the French call it, got the prestigious trophy for the first time. Peugeot brand victories at COTY have been counted since 1969, when journalists called the best Peugeot 504. The next triumph took place in 1988: there were no Peugeot 405 peers. In 2002, three hundred and seventh won the main prize, and in 2014 Peugeot 308, in 2017 - Peugeot 3008. It remains to be recalled that the COTY-2019 title was won by Jaguar I-Pace.
