Backblaze storage capacity reached 1 EB

That's 1,000,000,000,000 bytes.

Backblaze, known to our regular HDD reliability report readers, has reached the round mark. The fact is, it specializes in providing storage services, and recently its storage capacity reached 1 EB.

A clear idea of what this volume is, gives this example: if you start a video call and record it, you could occupy the entire storage in 237 823 years.

Today only a few companies have storages of this size. The first was Oracle, which crossed the 1 EB mark in 2011.

The maintenance of such storage is much more difficult, than it can be assumed at first sight. It needs the right infrastructure and constant replacement for failed drives.

Backblaze was founded in 2007 with only five employees. Backblaze currently employs 145 people and has customers in more than 160 countries.
